Did you ever read a book that’s so good, it takes you a few days to even process how to do it justice in a review? For me, that was The Huntress.
This book follows three alternating character storylines- Nina, a female Soviet pilot who is the only one to encounter the Nazi murderess known only as The Huntress and escape. Ian, a war correspondent who now hunts Nazis postwar to bring them to justice, and Jordan, an aspiring photographer who is suspicious of her new stepmother’s past.
The story had a little bit of everything – history, suspense, thrills, romance, and even humor. It was a slow build of character development through each viewpoint, but this helped to really understand the characters and their motivations, and how each fit into the context of the story, until each of their paths crossed.
Before this year, I didn’t read that much historical fiction, but I’m 2/2 so far with 5 star reads in the genre. I found myself really invested in the story of Nina and the Night Witches, so much so that I actually stopped the reading the book at one point to go and read more about the real-life story of the female Soviet WW2 pilots.
Overall, this was a great read that tugged at your heart strings while keeping your pulse high. I highly recommend for anyone interested in historical fiction, or who would like to divulge more into the genre. I look forward to reading The Alice Network and others from Kate Quinn.
